Sharon Laphams Art Show from August 2nd to August 29th at the BATV Gallery in Billerica Center
announced in the last Shawsheen Trib was a personal success for Sharon and a true windfall for
the SRWA. Sharon sold $854 of her work and donated all of the proceeds to the SRWA.
Congratulations, Sharon, and thank you!
Recreational Equipment, Incorporated (REI) has responded to the SRWAs grant request
with a grant of $3,268, which will be used to cover next years cleanup expenses.
Thanks to member Natalie Medici for putting our name forward as a grant candidate.
The Ongoing Chainsaw Fundraiser
As we make progress on accumulating the funds to purchase a chainsaw for the SRWA,
the blade of the chainsaw above (drawn by Sharon Lapham) will grow progressively darker.
When it is completely black, we will have accomplished our funding goal of $360.

We Need a New Chainsaw
by Ken Doran

Many of you are long time paddlers on the Shawsheen River and know firsthand the work
that has been done over the years. Among our many activities has been scenic pruning
and removal of downed trees for navigation and erosion control. This work has been done
primarily with the use of chainsaws and lots of hard work. It has made every section of
the river more enjoyable to paddle and increased safety for the canoeing public.
Until now, one member has carried the cost of the chainsaws and maintenance. At this time,
SRWA is requesting our members to search for individuals and organizations that would
support funding of a new chainsaw. Over the past six years, we have worn out two chainsaws
that are dedicated to river cutting. The work is hard on the saws and a replacement saw
is now needed at a cost of approximately $360. If you know an individual or organization
willing to contribute to this specific need, please contact Bob Rauseo at (978) 851-9505.
To make a donation to the Chainsaw Acquisition Effort, please make your check
for $10, $20, or more out to the "SRWA". In the notation field at the bottom left of the check,
please write the word "chainsaw." Remember that every donation to the SRWA is tax deductible.
