This is the first obstacle you would encounter on a trip downsream through Andover.Portage is difficult here as there is little choice but to carry the canoes around the buildings and down stream to where you think you can put in again. Below the dam is very rocky for a good stretch and not a good place to put in. Further along there are more obstacles, in the way of trees and snags.The best place to put back in is to carry the canoes all the way down the end of Dale St. and a hundred yards more to the parking lot of the Shawsheen/Vale Reservation.A sad statement about accessability of the Shawsheen in Andover.
